Quartz Clock, Rohde & Schwarz

In 1962 the Furtwangen School of Engineering set up a ‘time lab’. The ‘CAA Standard Time Unit’ by Rohde & Schwarz of Munich, priced at 45,200 Marks, was at its core. In comparison, a VW Beetle cost 3,900 Marks at the time. At least, for all that money, the school had gained a clock that was only a trifling 1/100,000ths of a second off per day.
