Wristwatch, the Seiko Quartz Astron

The 1960s witnessed not only the race to the moon but also the race to make the first wristwatch to have a quartz movement. The winner was Seiko, the Japanese watch company. The first quartz wristwatches could be purchased at Christmastime in 1969 for the price of a small motor car. Because of technical problems, nearly all items in this small series were recalled. Only a very few remain today.
