The Oldest Black Forest Clock

The Furtwangen School of Clock-Making proudly presented this clock in April 1860 as ‘the oldest known Black Forest clock to date’. For years, the school had been looking for such a clock of early origins. Although other even older ‘Black Forest’ wooden gear clocks have since been exhibited, they all originated in other regions. Hence, this clock from the mid-18th century is extremely significant for the research on the beginnings of clock-making in the Black Forest.
