A TV integrated into a wristwatch? Unbelievable! In the early 1980’s, the Seiko TV Watch was considered revolutionary. This watch was so futuristic that Roger Moore even used it as a secret weapon in the James Bond movie “Octopussy“.
The TV Watch was only possible thanks to the transition to a new technology. Instead of a chunky picture tube, Seiko for the first time used an approximately 2.7 x 1.7 cm-sized LCD screen, which, however, was rather low-contrast and only permitted light/dark shades. Buyers of this watch still had to do without color images.
What might have been the greatest flaw is that, to watch TV with this device, users had to connect it to a Walkman-sized receiver. Still, the Seiko TV Watch was included in the Guinness World Records book in 1984.
