Look at how small these pieces are! It is not necessarily just the large clocks that astonish our visitors. Mechanical wrist watch movements with their tiny pieces are just as admirable. You need a magnifying glass to discern the fine craftsmanship of the gearwheels and levers.
Factories started producing the small wrist watches as early as 100 years ago. In order to maintain their functionality, their mechanical miniature movements needed expert servicing from time to time. Watchmakers cleaned and oiled the watches and occasionally replaced wear parts. Sometimes they even had to make their own spare parts. During the practical examination to obtain their master’s certificates, clockmakers like Eduard Moers had to prove they had the necessary skills to perform this challenging work.
