Unknown maker, Black Forest, c. 1830

Like most clocks from the Black Forest, this item bears no shopmark. Yet, it is still possible to identify its production date fairly accurately, for the first giraffe came to Europe in 1827. The remarkable animal unleashed a real "giraffe craze" in France. All kinds of souvenirs with giraffe motifs were being sold. Even Black Forest clockmakers supplied the appropriate clocks to France.
