Wooden-Gear Clock with Astronomical and Astrological Indications

Unknown maker, Black Forest, c. 1750

According to records, this extraordinary wooden-gear clock had originally come from the abbey of St. Peter in the Black Forest. The clock shows the relation between the observation of the heavens and routine activities ("Farmers' Almanac"). That is why we find astrological indications such as the passage of the moon (position of the moon in the zodiac) and the planetary hour ruler.
