Wall Clock in "Station-House Style"

Furtwangen, 1850s

Friedrich Eisenlohr (1805-1854), a Karlsruhe architect, designed a wall clock in the style of a signalman's hut for a contest of the Furtwangen School of Clock-Making. The clock in the shape of an alpine hut launched the sweeping success of the Black Forest cuckoo clock. This "forefather" of the yet beloved cuckoo clock belonged to the Grand Dukes of Baden.
