The First Quartz Wristwatch: Seiko SQ 35

Seiko, Japan 1969

In the 1960's, there was not only a race to the moon but also a race to make the first wristwatch with a quartz movement. The winner of the latter was the Seiko Watch Company. The first models could be purchased at Christmas 1969 for the price of a compact car. Due to technical problems, nearly all watches in this small series were recalled. There are only a very few left today.
