Rolex Oyster Wristwatch

Rolex, Switzerland, 1927

Wristwatches presented new challenges for movements and cases. Unlike pocket watches, wristwatches were worn in direct contact with the body, which subjects them to severe stress. One of the first to address this situation was Hans Wilsdorf (1881-1960). In 1927 the founder of "Rolex" presented the waterproof watch in a full-page advertisement in the "Daily Mail".
