Receiver for the DCF-77 Time Signal

Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (National Metrology Institute), Braunschweig, 1973

In 1967 Wolfgang Hilberg (*1932) had a procedure for the digital coding of the transfer of time signals patented. As a result, the long-wave station, DCF77, has been transmitting Central European Time in Mainflingen near Frankfurt ever since 1973. The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig, which developed this prototype of the radio-controlled clock, is responsible for the official time.
