Prototype for a Low-Priced Quartz Clock Movement

Gebr. Staiger, St. Georgen 1970

In the 1970's, watch production underwent dramatic change. Fewer and fewer movements were being made of metal. Instead, plastic was being used to conserve manpower. Thanks to micro-electronics, quartz technology forged its way into everyday life. One year after making this prototype, Staiger of St. Georgen introduced the first low-priced quartz movement for the world market.
