Pendulum Clock with Electromagnetic Drive

Alexander Bain, England, 1840's

The Scots clockmaker, Alexander Bain (1811-1877), pioneered telegraphy and electrotechnology. Back in 1841 he had already had most of the basic principles of electrical clocks patented. Yet, financial and technical difficulties permitted him to manufacture only very few clocks. Today, only extremely few of his clocks remain.
