Marine Chronometer No. 16

John Arnold, London, c. 1783

The London Clockmaker, John Arnold, (1736-1799) developed the chronometer escapement and temperature-compensated balances in 1782, thus making it possible to manufacture relatively reasonably priced, yet precise, marine chronometers. Arnold's chronometer number 16 is one of the first models of this new clock design.
